precept.concept.percept XIX.

WHO THE RESIDENCY IS FOR

The open call is addressed to:

  • Composers seeking to create new works or further develop existing compositions through sustained engagement with performers and ensembles
  • Performers interested in contemporary music, collaborative creation, interpretative experimentation, and the realization of new works
  • Ensembles seeking to expand their artistic practices through direct collaboration with composers and engagement with newly developed repertoire

The residency welcomes participants whose practices may involve conventional, expanded, experimental, interdisciplinary, or hybrid forms of composition and performance, provided that the proposed work can be meaningfully developed within the collaborative structure of the program.

Projects may enter the residency at different stages. A composer may apply with an initial concept, a partially developed score, an existing work requiring substantial further development, or a broader compositional framework.

Performers and ensembles may bring specific interpretative interests, technical knowledge, repertoire experience, experimental methodologies, or questions concerning contemporary performance practice.

The format presupposes sustained engagement across the online and on-site stages. Participants should be prepared to:

  • Present and contextualize their artistic practices
  • Share works, scores, drafts, recordings, or relevant working materials
  • Engage constructively with the work of other participants
  • Offer and receive precise artistic and critical feedback
  • Discuss compositional, interpretative, technical, and methodological questions
  • Participate in score reading, analysis, experimentation, rehearsal, and reflection
  • Remain responsive to the transformation of projects through collaboration
  • Contribute to a shared working environment based on attentiveness, reciprocity, and professional responsibility

The program is particularly suited to artists who understand collaboration not merely as a practical means of producing a performance, but as a mode of inquiry capable of transforming artistic methods, relations, and outcomes.
